AMA: Strategies to enhance clinic efficiency

Synchronizing the patient, provider, information, and equipment for appointments on time, every time, is one strategy for an efficient clinic.

The AMA has laid out strategies to support synchronization across five critical elements for appointments you can consider for your clinic:

• Patients (e.g., stagger check-in times to avoid bottlenecks, develop a script, etc.)
• Providers (e.g., schedule pauses for work that would otherwise interfere with appointments, shift work to the appropriate team members, etc.)
• Exam rooms (e.g., standardize exam rooms and stock, create a room sharing strategy, etc.)
• Equipment (e.g., agree on standard equipment for each appointment, develop signals and methods for shared equipment, etc.)
• Information (e.g., ensure diagnostics are requested pre-appointment, log into EMR and Netcare ahead of time, etc.)
