Physicians are accustomed to helping others navigate uncertainty, but even the most experienced physicians may feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar systems when facing personal challenges.
So the Physician and Family Support Program (PFSP), operated by the Alberta Medical Association, offers voluntary case coordination as a specialized service when more support is needed.
In the latest edition of Alberta Doctors’ Digest, PFSP Co-Director Dr. Erica Dance shares more details on the service, including:
- The PFSP assistance line provides immediate support, while case coordination offers a longer-term relationship focused on helping individuals address more complex circumstances.
- Participants are paired with dedicated supports (case coordinators) who become familiar with their circumstances, help guide them through their challenges, and connect them with appropriate resources and services.
- For additional care, the PFSP provides increased therapy hours for individuals enrolled in case coordination.
