In September 2025, our PCN completed a physician engagement project to better understand the value our Primary Care Registered Nurses (PCRNs) provide to members and identify potential areas for improvement.
This project collected feedback from 22 members with a PCRN assigned to their PMH team.
We were pleased to see that participants consistently provided feedback that demonstrated the value our PCRNs bring to our members and their patients:
- Interview participants shared how valuable the support of their PCRN was, with many describing their PCRN as having a significant impact on the team-based care their patients receive.
- Participants felt that PCRN support enhanced patient care by providing follow-up appointments, ongoing condition management, and detailed disease education.
- Participants could rely on their PCRN to provide health information and education to patients, allowing them to better understand and manage their health conditions.
- The time PCRNs spend with patients supports the development of therapeutic relationships and offers insights into patients’ lives that ultimately help to inform physicians’ care.
“I just want to, again, shout from the rooftops, how valuable I think these services are and how lucky we are to avail ourselves of them.”
“It makes such a huge difference having the support of a skilled allied health professional to support what you’re doing.”
This engagement work shows how valuable the work of our PCRNs is to our members and their patients. Their work directly improves patient care, supports chronic disease management, and facilitates continuity of care.
The project also allowed us to identify possible areas of improvement, which we will explore to ensure the program continues to be of value to members and our community.
