A standing measles exposure advisory has been issued for the South Zone due to the large number of cases reported in the area.
All individuals living, working or attending school in, or travelling to, the South Zone are advised to be aware of the significant current risk of measles and ensure immunizations are up to date.
A total of 491 cases had been reported as of May 29, compared to 12 in the Calgary Zone.
All practitioners in the Calgary Zone, but especially those working in communities near the South Zone, are advised to consider measles in under-vaccinated individuals presenting with a febrile illness. Locally acquired cases may not have a known source.
Please read the memo from the Calgary Zone Medical Officers of Health.
Appointments for immunization are available within the week across the zone.
A measles hotline was also launched earlier this month at 1.844.944.3434.
Physicians can also report suspected and probable cases to the physician reporting line at 1.844.343.0971 (option No. 1).
